In 2016, US Lacrosse has modified the process for the selection of High School All Americans. The process changes were done for a number of reasons. Primary among those reasons are to bring the selections for both the Boy's and the Girl's games USA Lacrosse High School All Americans in line with each other.
A player must be nominated by his coach using the online nomination form found HERE. The online nominations are due by May 17,2024
After the online nominations are complete, a committee of coaches will begin a 2 step process.
- The committee will meet via Zoom for the purposes of paring the ballot down. The number of nominees that are on the ballot will not exceed 2x the number of available spots.
- The pared down ballot will be presented at the MHSLCA End of Year Meeting and every coach of a player on the ballot will be allowed to speak about their nominee and why he deserves to be consider for the award. After the coaches speak, the committee will vote. Results of the vote will be made public sometime (24hours) after the vote is taken. You may see the members of the 2024 Committee by clicking HERE.
Below are the most significant changes (for the entire criteria process, please see the document at the bottom of this page):
- Players must be of outstanding character and be in good academic standing with their school
- All State Selections are a strong consideration but, ultimately, not a requirement. (US Lacrosse has nothing to do with the All State Selections but previously required that a player be a 1st Team All State Player in most circumstances.) The goal of US Lacrosse's All American Selection is to find the very best players in the State). If a player is not on the ballot but has earned First Team All State, he will be added, however, the coach must retroactively add the online nomination.
- A player may be a USL All American without being an All State honoree. The governing bodies for each set of post season awards is different.
- Sportsmanship, including Unsportsmanlike fouls, will be a consideration on a players eligibility.
- A coach is encouraged but not required to be a member of US Lacrosse. (However, in order to cast a ballot, the coach must be a member in good standing with the MHSLCA)
- A player is eligible to be honored as both a Academic All American and a Field All American.
