Season ; Show 84- Big Eyeblack Show
MICHIGAN LACROSSE REVIEW SEASON FIVE SHOW NO. 84 - The simplest of a single rule application will bring the biggest debate this year over something that could be understood much like our American politics. The divided world of eye black-or-no black will take a significant turn in the spring of 2025 as a new NFHS ruling narrows the use of the product to mostly fighting glare, which is what the product was designed to do. Much of the prep lacrosse community have witnessed student-athletes adorning their faces with eye black that would make Sitting Bull proud, but the new rules significantly reduce its use with the strongest penalty to date including a non-releasable bench penalty. One of MICHLOA's finest, Brian Effinger, will try to explain the rule. We check in with some of the local NAIA teams this week as they begin play and our regular trio of panelists have some strong opinions about winning and losing, so please stay tuned.
Season Five Show No. 83 Michigan Lacrosse Review - MIAA Previews - MHSAA Seeding - The Coaches
Season 5:Episode 82- MIAA Review- MHSAA Seeding Information
The college season is underway, and the Review checks in on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with brief stops at Hope and Alma colleges. The weekly trio of Chris Kolon, John Locy and Greg Normand chat briefly about the NCAA DI season opening and then we have a frank discussion about a MHSAA research paper about the state of team seeding for our post-season tournament. The discussion, brought to light by the MHSAA at an annual season ending meeting in June 2024, has worked its way off the back burner to the front of the stove and a ton of MHSAA head lacrosse coaches don't even know it was a discussion point, so we weigh in and I think you might be surprised. We, men's lacrosse, are the only seeded sport in the MHSAA family since the inception in 2022. Stay tuned because you might learn something.
