MHSLCA Hall of Fame

The Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association annually organizes a Hall of Fame review and induction ceremony to celebrate and honor those individuals who have gone far and beyond the bounds of success and volunteering. The MHSLCA has two categories where individuals can be nominated for induction. The HOF organizing committee, in 2017, calibrated basic standards for consideration into the HOF for both the coaching and contributors categories. Clarkston head coach Brian Kaminskis and 2019 HOF inductee is chairman of the committee. He can be reached at clarkstonlacrosse@hotmail.com. The awards are announced the Monday before Thanksgiving and honored the second Sunday in February by the HOF committee. Plans for 2023 are still being considered.

Coaching Class - The MHSLCA Hall of Fame organization has a category for inductees to be included in the coaching class. Generally, 125 wins and 10 years of service are the benchmarks for consideration.

Contributor Class - The MHSLCA Hall of Fame organization has a category for inductees to be included in the contributor class. Generally, this category is a bit more open as assistant coaches with 125 wins and 10 years of service are considered, but the HOF committee entertains recommendations for anyone servicing Michigan high school lacrosse.

The Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association's Hall of Fame was founded in 2007 by lacrosse coaches around the state to formally recognize the dedication and committment for excellence in growing the sport in our State.

In 2021, our Hall of Fame Committee expanded the categories of consideration for this honor.  The committee believes that there are a great number of people that have helped that have never served as a Head Coach.

There are four categories that a person can be nominated in.  The categories and the criteria for consideration are listed below:

Head Coach Category (Max of 3):

  1. Must be a head coach in Michigan at the high school level.
  2. Minimum of 8 years of coaching in Michigan
  3. Minimum of 100 wins in Michigan
  4. Service to the sport in Michigan
  5. Awards/nominations in Michigan

A coach can still be nominated and considered, but would more than likely be placed in a contributor or category.

Contributor Category (Max of 2):

The Committee will accept any and all nominations to this category.  Specific service and longevity will be key points of discussion.  The committee will be generous in the latitude of any contributors resume as it relates to the MHSLCA.

Legacy Category (Max of 2):

The Committee recognizes the importance of those that came before us.  We have created this category to recognize the founders of our game in Michigan.   There are coaches that pioneered our game in Michigan in the 1970’s and 80’s (pre and early MSLA days) that we feel deserve to be remembered and celebrated.  Knowing that official records and documents are mostly lost to history, the committee will rely on a panel of coaches/players from that era that can make recommendations for consideration.

Assistant Coach (Max of 1):

The Committee has determined that there are assistant coaches that have made a large impact on our game.  For many reasons they have not been able to be a head coaches for the required amount of time, but nonetheless have grown our game in such ways that they have become worth of recognition.  The distinguishing factor between this category and the contributor is that this person is/was a coach that meets the following criteria:

  1.  Based on the head coaches/school record for wins, min. 100 in Michigan
  2.  Longevity – 8 years minimum
  3.  Service to Sport
  4.  Awards/nomination

Each year the MHSLCA will accept nominations during an open nomination using the form below.  A nomination will rollover to future consideration for 3 years.  At that time, a new nomination will need to be submitted.

To nominate a person for consideration for our Hall of Fame, please follow THIS LINK to the online nomination form.

Nominations remain on file for a period of three years.  At that point, if not yet selected, a new nomination will be required. The nominees that still have active nominations can be found HERE
