The Michigan High School  Lacrosse Coaches Association

 

 

Article I          Name

The name of the organization shall be: The Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association

 

Article II         Purpose

The purpose of The Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association (MHSLCA) shall be to direct and coordinate the efforts and growth of competitive boys lacrosse in the state of Michigan in a manner that is consistent with the MHSAA and US Lacrosse Coaches Council. The MHSLCA functions as a Coaches Association formed by the High School programs of Michigan. As a Coaches Association the member coaches are bound by the coaching, sportsmanship and ethics of the MHSAA, the individual school districts and the code of ethics established by US Lacrosse. .

 

Article III        Membership

Membership to the MHSLCA is limited to any and all coaches of a High School Lacrosse program within the state of Michigan and includes the varsity head, assistant varsity, sub varsity and former varsity and sub varsity coaches and who are members good standing.  The High School Head Coach shall have voting privileges or the designated member of the program who is a member in good standing.

 

Note: Member in good standing includes, but is not restricted to having paid the  current year’s membership fee.  

 

Article IV       Officers

There shall be four (4) executive officers of the organization. The President shall be a high school varsity head coach of a member program. The term of the President is two (2) years. The President has primary responsibilities of the business of the MHSLCA.

 

The Vice President shall be the varsity head coach of a member program. The term of the Vice President shall be two (2) years. He shall be elected by the majority vote of the members. At least two –thirds of the members must be represented at this election. The duty of the Vice President is to assist the President in conducting league business. Upon conclusion of the two year term, the VP shall, if desired, become the President of the organization and assume all duties and responsibilities.

 

The Secretary shall be a coach or administrator of a member program. The term of the secretary shall be one (1) year ( renewable) . The Secretary shall be elected by a majority vote of the members. At least two –thirds of the members must be represented at this election. The duties of the Secretary shall include record keeping, minutes and communication with members.

 

The Treasurer shall be a coach or administrator of a member program. The term of the Treasurer shall be one (1) year (renewable). The Treasurer shall be elected by a majority vote of the members. At least two –thirds of the members must be represented at this election. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to maintain financial records of the league.

 

 

Article V         Meetings

The officers shall call meetings of the members of the Association as deemed necessary to conduct MHSLCA business. At least three (3) meetings will be held: A September scheduling meeting; A February Business Meeting; an All Star Voting meeting sometime following  the MHSAA Lacrosse Tournament

 

Article VI       Voting and Quorum

To vote on MHSLCA business,  members  must in good standing and a simple majority shall determine the outcome of official votes. Only the head coach of the high School program shall have voting privileges. In emergency situations, the executive committee has the authority to take action on  behalf of the membership.

 

Article VII      Committees

The President shall be authorized to appoint committees for the purpose of studying specific issues and making written recommendations to the general membership. All head coaches, assistant coaches and administrators of the MHSLCA, in good standing, are eligible for committee membership. Athletic administrators not members of the MHLCA may serve on committee in an ex-officio capacity.  

 

Article VIII    Appeals

The MHSLCA shall have a clear method for adjudication of grievances and appeals. All decisions regarding these matters shall be made with the goal of maintaining the integrity of the MHSLCA, its constitution and rules. The Executive Committee shall have the authority to make a decision deemed appropriate. The decision power shall be limitless in scope in order to give the Executive Committee full authority to resolve the conflict. This may include a waiver of specific rules or even expulsion from the Association.

 

All grievances, perceived hardships, appeals and application for waiver of particular rules shall be documented in a petition directed in writing to the President. The President is then authorized to conduct an investigation and seek information from the pertinent parties. The Executive Committee shall then make a decision regarding the matter in question. The decision shall be communicated in writing. All decisions are final.

          Michigan All America honors will be awarded through the process established by US Lacrosse.

 

National Senior Showcase Awards

          Michigan Senior Showcase recipients shall be awarded through the process established by

 US Lacrosse.

 

Michigan Coach of the Year

                Michigan Coach of the Year recipients shall be awarded through the process established by

                US Lacrosse

 

Michigan Assistant Coach of the Year

Michigan Assistant Coach of the Year  recipients shall be awarded through the process established by US Lacrosse

 

Michigan Man of the Year

          Michigan Man of the Year recipients shall be awarded through the process established by

                US Lacrosse.

 

 

Michigan Player of the Year

The Michigan Player of the year shall be the All America honoree who received the most votes through the US Lacrosse Process. The Player of the Year award is named after Chuck Vorce.  

 

Michigan - Don Lutz award-

 

MHSLCA –  Gene Reilly  - Unsung Hero Awards – named in honor of Gene Reilly, coach of Detroit Country Day whose 1971 team participated with L’Anse Cruese in the first ever boys high school  lacrosse game in the state of Michigan

MVP Awards

           

Note: Only the head coach may vote for the US Lacrosse sponsored Awards, providing they are a member in good standing and a current member of US Lacrosse.  For the all state awards, each program is allowed a single vote, preferably by the head coach; that vote may be executed by proxy to a designated member of the HS program so long as that designee is a member in good standing with MHSLCA.

 

Article X         Dues

            The MHSLCA 2005 dues shall be set at $35.00 for each head Varsity coach; $100.00 for school memberships – includes head coach  and all coaches associated within the HS Program ( includes sub varsity); Former Coaches fees will be set at $20.00 

·         The membership dues of this Association shall be based on an annual fee.

·         The effective dates of membership shall be March 1 through February 28 of the following year, regardless of when the dues are paid.

 

Article XI       Amendments

Any amendments to the Constitution must be presented to the members at least thirty (30) days before the designated voting meetings. A business meeting that will include any vote on a change to the Constitution must be approved by a three-fourths majority of the members present and at least two-thirds of the voting members in good standing. Members not able to be present at a meeting involving amendment changes may submit their vote by written proxy. The  30 day amendment restriction shall be enforced following the September 2005 meeting.
